Compliance failures rarely happen at the incinerator. They happen in the gaps — a container that left the ward but was never logged at the store, a collection that was signed for but never arrived, a batch nobody can account for. MedWaste closes those gaps by making every container a tracked object with an unbroken record of custody.

Each consignment carries an identity from the moment it is sealed. Generation department, waste stream, weight and handler are captured at source, and every subsequent transfer is a scanned, timestamped event rather than a signature that has to be trusted.

Identification has to work in the real conditions of a hospital corridor, a loading bay and a treatment plant — not just in a demo. MedWaste supports both barcode and RFID tagging so facilities can choose the method that fits each stage: barcodes where a quick line-of-sight scan is enough, RFID where containers move in bulk and stopping to scan each one individually is not realistic.

The result is that identity travels with the waste. A container scanned on the ward is the same record the driver scans at collection, the same record the treatment facility scans on receipt — and any mismatch surfaces immediately instead of at audit time.

Transport is where healthcare waste is most exposed: outside the facility's walls, in a vehicle, on a route nobody is watching. MedWaste tracks collection vehicles by GPS, so a consignment's position between the generating facility and the treatment site is a matter of record rather than of trust in the contractor.

That record answers the questions regulators and health authorities actually ask — did the vehicle go where it said it went, how long was the waste in transit, and does the quantity that arrived match the quantity that left.

MedWaste is built around WHO guidelines for the safe management of waste from healthcare activities and the national regulations that sit on top of them — segregation by category, safe handling, and documented treatment of infectious and hazardous streams. The workflow reflects those requirements, so following the system is the same thing as following the guidance.

Reporting is the other half. Ministries, governorate health directorates and individual hospitals each need a different view of the same data, and MedWaste produces those views from the custody record itself instead of from a spreadsheet assembled after the fact.

MedWaste is not a pilot. It operates across all 27 Egyptian governorates in a national programme run with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population and UNICEF — a deployment that spans a very wide range of facility sizes, from large public hospitals to small primary care units, and the contractors that serve them.
